Ingenious Virtual Shopping in Korean Subways [Video]

UK grocery retailer Tesco has found a way to one-up the competition in the Korean market, they’ve gone virtual. The company has come up with an innovative way of shopping online. Costumers can browse displays in a subway station and buy products by using smartphones to scan QR codes beneath pictures of the goods they want. Need a Hug? Do it Yourself!

They say the best things in life are free, like hugs. But in case there’s no one around to give you one, then you can do it yourself… and it’s going to cost you around $2500. It’s called Sense-Roid, this demo consisted of a dummy and a vest worn by the user. Hugs and touches detected by the dummy’s sensors are re-created as the same sensation in the user’s vest by vibrators and feedback motors. So the machine lets you know what your hugs feel like.

Robot Teacher Wins Kindergarten Kids’ Hearts [Video]

Earlier this year we told you about the Korean government’s plan to replace native English speaking teachers with robots in 3 to 5 years, they certainly haven’t forgotten their promise. Kindergarten classrooms are currently in the process of conducting a three week field trial of the robot KIRO and the students seem to be enjoying it.

A Better Way to Take Self Portraits

Seriously, there should be a better way of talking self-portrait photos that standing in front of a bathroom mirror. Of course any modern digital camera has a timer setting and more professional models come with remote controls, but is there a way to make it even easier to take a photo of yourself? ASIMO Dance Battle

Today is ASIMO’s birthday and as a part of the 5 day celebration, Honda presented what was probably the world’s first human vs robot dance battle.

AirStrike – “The Iron Man Experience”

“The Touchless Iron Man Experience”  was title of LM3 Labs display at Digital Content Expo 2010. They showcased their product “AirStrike”. A virtual mouse that interprets the user’s hand gestures in mid-air and enables interaction with on screen graphics. Robots Sing Ponyo DC Expo 2010

Yamaha presented a collaboration between PaPeRo and Vocaloid. But this probably means nothing to you if you don’t know who those are.
PaPeRo -Stands for “Partner-type-Personal-Robot”. A research robot from NEC. This bot was created with the aim of it being a personal partner for us humans. It features; speech sensors, facial recognition software, touch sensors and more. And it’s cute as hell.
