FLAVIUS is a  low cost point of sales cash register centered around the iPad. It was recently featured at the Interfood Japan Izakaya Expo.

The iPad (and iPod) is used both as an ordering device and a cash register. It was also has an attendance and revenue management system which is in-sync with online data.

FLAVIUS was not the iPad’s only showing at the Interfood expo. A system which allowed customers to order from the comfort of their seats using the apple product was also featured. Japan is taking full advantage of the iPad’s versatility. FLAVIUS has been in use since last year.

I don’t know much about POS hardware but I would assume it’s cost effective because of the features i.e. attendance management, and the ability to trace revenue data on the web, and yet at the end of the day you still have an iPad to do whatever.
